n1628520028_52161_9424 I had a chance to see and meet Les Brown, a world-renowned professional speaker, author, and television personality, today at the Cool River Cafe in Greenwood Village. I had heard of Les Brown, but never heard him speak before. One word to describe: Incredible. From his life story to his delivery and passion for what he does, I saw firsthand why companies pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for him to speak at corporate events or even do one-on-one mentorship. The topic of his 2 hour speech was “Live Full, Die Empty” as he shared the importance of living our dreams now, identifying “hidden fears,” and how to walk in 100% alignment with your purpose. It was well worth getting up at 5:30 in the morning (I’m not a morning person by any means) to go hear him speak, as it was an incredible event overall. After he spoke, I introduced myself and Les asked how I learned about his event. I explained that I own a web design company and a member of the Greenwood Village Chamber of Commerce, and mentioned some of the other known speakers that I work with. I was happy to pass my business card along as he inquired more about web design, and hope to connect with Les later on very soon.

To learn more about Les Brown, visit his website at www.lesbrown.com. To view a portfolio of other speaker’s websites I’ve designed, visit my web design portfolio @ www.teqmedia.com/portfolio, and click to select the “Speakers” category.

“Fake Call is a quick and easy way to “call yourself” in order to politely escape social situations. While pretending to receive a phone call is possible without any special software, this usually takes too many awkward key presses and fumbling. Fake Call makes it as easy as pressing 1 button, and provides an extremely realistic incoming call experience. It also includes powerful scheduling and personalization features in a simple, unobtrusive user interface.”

How many of you have been in awkward social situations with need of an excuse to leave? Fake Call for Windows Mobile can help you get out of those moments by helping you schedule an automatic (fake) call from any person/telephone # at any scheduled time. I personally wouldn’t use it in a business situation, but for other moments sometimes I admit it could come in handy ;)

This is a cool pic of the worlds largest diamond mind in Eastern Siberia (Mimy, to be exact). The hole is so big that the surounding air zone is restricted for helicopters as a result of a few being “sucked in” by the downward air flow. The mine is 525 meters deep and 1200 meters wide, and in operation from 1955 to 2004 (nearly 50 years).

In somewhat similar news, Japanese scientists are actively drilling to the earths mantle (approximately 14 times deeper than the diamond mind hole), with an aim to be the first to do so. They are using a giant drilling ship named “Chikyu” (Japanese for “Earth”), that weights 57 tons.

I’m no scientist, but I have a little conern about the drilling to the earths mantle for various reasons. Estimated time frame according the following PDF document is 2008/2009.

Named to to InfoWorld’s list of Top-25 Chief Technology Officers in the nation for 2008, Vivek Kundra is transforming Washington D.C. with some of the most innovative technologies for government. Join him and Google’s president of Enterprise, Dave Girouard, for a roundtable discussion about why Google Enterprise is the right technology platform for D.C.’s 38,000 government employees.

One of the DNC events I attended today was “Google Apps for the Government.” Since I work with government clients, I was curious to know what Google’s up to in the area of specialized apps that I can make use of with them. It was interesting to know how many local government agencies are currently using Google’s enterprise tools to manage day-to-day operations. Since the apps are completely web-based, agencies can take a “Government anytime/anywhere” approach to their operations, and cut significant cost of building intranets and other applications from scratch. I’ll be posting more on the event from the notes by end of week.

It was a pleasure to be part of a live studio audience tonight for TV One’s DNC After Party Show. The show featured live coverage of the Democratic National Convention with hosts Jacque Reid and professor/author/radio host Michael Eric Dyson. Special guests appearing on the show included actor Hill Harper, musician/singer John Legend, Chuck D, Tatiana Ali, G. Garvin, Sheryl Underwood and more. Also on the show, Hillary Clinton who was interviewed by Rev. Marcia Dyson. Everyone touched on some interesting topics including John Legend who had a lot to say about his views on politics, the nation and Obama. It was a great show overall.

Trying to show some skills on the piano after John Legend got down–but wonder why they took the mic away soon after ;-) just kidding.

Email Prioritizer is a plug-in for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (running on Exchange Server) that helps you manage email overload. This concept test provides a “do not disturb” button that temporarily pauses new email arrival, and prioritizes email with a 0-3 star rating system.  This should help you focus on the emails that are most important.

It’s easy these days to get caught up responding to messages as soon as they arrive in your inbox, and not getting as much done, if anything, as a result. Given the 50+ legitimate messages I receive each day, I’m going to give this a try and see if it helps :-)

Outlook Email Prioritizer can be downloaded at:
